While sitting at my desk this morning, I was faced with the task of planning out my classes and workshops for the upcoming weeks, months and yes, even the year. That is a rather big task. I want to be able to challenge my students on both a physical as well as an emotional level. I wish to encourage growth when they meet me on their mats as well as when they move out of the studio and head into the world.
Sometimes, the task is overwhelming.
How can I inspire even when I am not right there in their personal space?
As I tried to gather my own thoughts, I drifted to my own personal growth this past year. 2015 was amazing for me, don’t get me wrong however, it was filled with personal challenges. Whenever those challenges would creep in, I found that I would seek out quotes to inspire me and motivate me to continue on my path. Something that I could just grab a hold of, remember while I was out driving, walking & running errands. The majority of my sanity from 2015 came from books and movies that I enjoyed…not necessarily from big famous philosophers. (Sorry Ram Das and Dhali Lama lovers out there.)
So this year, I am declaring it the year of living WILD.
My meditation classes will be focused on quotes and lessons from one of my favorite authors, the brash and in your face brilliance of Cheryl Strayed…as well as from one of my favorite movies based off of her writings – Wild. Our yoga practices will be themed on learning to break free of our own limits and being content to BE.
There are plenty of lessons to be learned from being in nature. Just like there are plenty of lessons to be learned from being in love, traveling, dealing with hardships, celebrating and in general, just being human.
We are going to keep things a bit more simple for 2016 my awesome warriors. We are going to learn to live without walls…or limits. We are going to learn to set ourselves free. We are going to make 2016 the year of living WILD.
I hope that you will join me.
